"Sweet Land"

Previews: Paris, Je Taime; A Mighty Heart; Day Watch

Went to the movies tonight on impulse to see "Sweet Land" a very sweet movie. It's about a German woman who travels to Minnesota to marry a Norwegian farmer, and the difficulties they encounter. It also had a multi-layer framing structure (present, 40 or so years ago, 30 or so years before that), of which I was not a huge fan, even though it did make me cry.

I really enjoyed Alan Cumming and Alex Kingston. I haven't seem Alan Cumming in a role like this before, I don't think; he was different and unexpected.

The story was very sweet, if not particularly original or unpredictable. But it was what I was in the mood for tonight, and I enjoyed it.
