"Mad Max: Fury Road" (2015)

Previews (dear God, there were a lot): Sinister 2, The Last Witch Hunter, Jurrasic World, Terminator: Genisys, The Walk, Fantastic Four, Entourage, San Andreas

Well. Although I hadn't read any specific reviews, I knew that this movie was getting great ones that emphasized its feminist themes. Overall, the film was a lot of fun, and very weirdly funny in a number of ridiculous ways, but not the greatest movie ever. Good action sequences and yes, I appreciated that basically, this was a group of women in a post-apocalyptic society dealing with a situation that could easily happen, with men (or a single man) treating them as breeding stock and little more. It was great seeing smart, strong women saying enough and doing what they had to do to try to take their lives back. I appreciated that Max and Nux were, for the most part, not men who came in to save the poor helpless women, but rather allies who fought beside them and helped them achieve their own freedom. And Charlize Theron reminds us again that she kicks ass. I also spent the movie staring at Nux and saying to myself, "that looks like Nicholas Hoult. But I'd know if Nicholas Hoult was in this, right? But it really looks like him, but painted white and without any hair." Of course, it was him.

Very interesting camera work, especially at the beginning. And we laughed every time the guitar player appeared -- especially when he became part of the fight.
